ESG data are now available in the Cofisem database

Cofisem can now provide:

– financial indicators (revenues, Opex and Capex),
– environmental data such as Scopes 1, 2 and 3, energy consumption ratios (renewable and non-renewable), energy intensity, etc,
– social data such as diversity, absenteeism, training, work force turnover and disability ratios, etc., and,
– governance data such as ratios of board independence, parity, existence of a specialized ESG committee, etc.

In some cases, these indicators are specific to the issuer's major business families, as a prelude to the publication of "sector-specific" indicators currently being developed by EFRAG.

As a first step, Cofisem has identified adapted sets of ratios for:
– Industrial and commercial companies,
– banks
– Insurance and reinsurance companies, and,
– real estate companies.

Among the data available to Cofisem are the targets published by emitters, mainly concerning their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which are decisive in assessing their efforts to reduce emissions in line with the global objective of not exceeding 1.5°C global warming.

The ESG data available at Cofisem can be combined with all the other financial data and ratios well known to investors and available at Cofisem, to enable sector analysis and informed investment choices.

Cofisem shares the conviction that the quality of an investment can no longer be measured solely by its financial achievements and prospects.

Launch of Cofisem Document Library

CDL gives access to a database of more than 1.3 million regulated information documents issued by companies listed in Europe and the main companies listed on other markets in the world, for more than twenty years, updated daily.

Its engine has many types of filters and a keyword search. CDL has a document-by-document or zipped multi-selection download function.

In addition, CDL includes an "alert" function that informs you of the arrival of any new document in the database that meets the criteria of a predefined search as well as a system for archiving searches so that they can be easily repeated.

This new Cofisem product is intended for issuers, banks, university analysts, audit firms, auditors, lawyers and other legal professionals, as well as the press and any specialized media.

New Cofisem ratios

The ratios now available (current and historical) can be gathered into several groups:

• The so-called "stock market" ratios
Such as EPS (basic and diluted), P/E, PEG, Yield, Payout ratio, Annual return on a share,

• The accounting ratios
Gross, operating and net margins
ROCE, ROE, Economic value/EBITDA

• The "business" ratios
Insurance: combined ratio, embedded value, assets under management
Banks: Operating ratio, Solvency ratio, CET1, leverage ratios
Real estate: Net asset value, Loan-to-value ratio, Vacancy rate (EPRA), Initial yield (EPRA)
Holdings: market value of the portfolio, Net Asset Value

It is certain that these ratios are part of the information supporting the comparison between listed companies and their valuation.

Cofisem and the XBRL France association

This association is itself a member of XBRL Europe, itself a member of Xbrl International. Like its sister associations around the world, its objective is to promote the use of the XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) standard for financial reporting.

Through this membership, Cofisem participates to the work of the association in its capacity as a provider of fundamental data in order to improve and complete its own processes for integrating data into its database in a quasi-automatic way.

The productivity gains achieved will allow to allocate an increased part of the teams' time to data quality control, to enlarge the universe of companies covered and to reduce the time of distribution to Cofisem's customers of the new data thus recovered thanks to XBRL.

Cofisem has built its a new database.

After several years of analysis and development, Cofisem has built its new database.

Benefiting from a new architecture, this new database has however made it possible to host all the data collected over more than twenty years as well in the field of governance than that of financial data.

The "source" documentation, which consists exclusively of official documents, has been transferred to new machines so that it can continue to be enriched on a daily basis by Cofisem's teams.

His work will finally make the COFISEM DATA RESEARCH (CDR) and COFISEM DATA LIBRARY (CDL) search engines available to investors and analysts.

For example, CDR will allow to edit and compare for selected samples of companies (by sector, by size, etc.), selected parameters and ratios, such as P/E, Pay-out, Yield, EV/EBE, Free Cash Flow/Capitalization, etc.

For its part, CDL will be able to select, over a given period and for determined samples of listed companies, the occurrence of a particular name or subject within a set of more than one million official publications.

Cofisem Database has been complemented by the data of all the listed companies of four Nordic countries : Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland

After several months of work, Cofisem's teams have finalized the data entry of all the listed Nordic companies into its database covering six years of history.

Cofisem's coverage of companies listed in Northern European countries is thus complete with Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

These data, updated daily, are now disseminated by several Nordic publications and financial institutions.

Founded in 1988, Cofisem is celebrating thirty years of existence. The firm, whose activity involves provision in several languages of fundamental information on listed companies, is renowned for its quality of service. Its customer base is made up of banks, online trading web sites, the press, accounting professionals and analysts. The constantly changing scope of listed companies monitored by Cofisem today amounts to more than 7,000 throughout the world, with particular focus on Europe and Africa.

Cofisem has continually developed to assist its customers: since its beginnings when it published its data in the form of hard-copy directories, then via CD-ROMs and later through XML feeds.
Today, it also distributes its data via Web services.

With the concern of meeting new requirements expressed by its customers, the firm is conducting in-depth restructuring of its database in order to enhance it with new information.

As a result, emphasis will be placed on data related to environmental and social governance, accompanied by reinforcement of the traditional fundamental financial aspects, with the introduction of more understandable and relevant business ratios in particular.
At the same time, two new services are set to be introduced in 2019 offering users the possibility of carrying out their own searches, both from the data and from source documents.

As such, Cofisem would be very interested to receive the wishes of potential users of such tools (to be sent to the address cofisem-data-research@cofisem.com), which would enable the firm to enhance its search engines with functions that it has not yet conceived.

New Euronext® environmental indexes followed by Cofisem

Among the data types registered in its data base, Cofisem has now included the information of the Euronext listed companies belonging to two new indexes. These indexes developed by Euronext are composed of a set of listed companies included in the Euronext SBF 120 index, selected on the basis of various criteria, and particularly, their rating scores in term of environmental matters delivered by CDP (formerly “Carbon Disclosure Project”).

The first of these two indexes (Euronext® CDP Environment France EW) makes no difference according to the nature of the activities run by the companies and select 40 of them belonging to the SBF120 index.

On the contrary, the second index (Euronext® CDP Environment France Ex Oil & Gas EW) excludes the SBF120 companies belonging to the Oil & Gas sector as defined by the ICB (Industry Classification Benchmark).

Euronext is giving full information on its website about the definition of these two indexes (https://www.euronext.com/fr/indices/index-rules).

The performances of these two indexes compared to the ones of Euronext and other market places will provide additional and valuable information to the investors willing to reconcile the respect for the environment and profitability.

The texts included are available into the three Swiss official languages, i.e. French, German and Italian but also in English.
In this way, Cofisem is pursuing the focused enlargement of the coverage of its database on listed companies in the world.
